This is the first exploration of the new year and it is called Household garden. Household Gardens is a project which is trying to promote organic vegetable in Cambodia also try to identify the problem why we import a lot of vegetables from outside and why we can’t afford the vegetables inside our country. For the past years, Cambodia has imported vegetables from other countries such as Vietnam and Thailand. Right now the local needs to import 140 tons to fit the demand of people, and we can only produce 400 tons inside the country. But people believe and think that a lot of vegetables in local are chemical and most vegetables that chemical are from the import of other countries. This exploration is focused on how we can help the community grow more vegetables for local by started with a small garden in each house so that they won’t need to buy vegetables from local market which can also avoid them from scared of chemical vegetables. But this is going to be a long term exploration so the first round of this exploration will be about us studying technical vegetable plantation such as nutrients needed for plants (NPK), the symptoms of deficiency NPK, organic compost, liquid fertilizer, organic pesticide, seed selection, chemical versus non-chemical vegetables, and harmful effects of chemical use on vegetables and we hope to write a manure at the end of the round about all of the technical vegetable plantation to help the farmers learn. We also have a trip to SomboSabay which is a community in Takeo province who plant organic vegetables and organic compost. We go there to learn about some technical organic vegetable planting and also learn about organic compost and liquid compost. We also go to Mr. Ros Mao house who teach us about his own way of planting organic vegetables and also learn about organic pesticide, Organic compost and liquid compost. After we come back we started to plan for planting our own garden in our school where we divided into 4 groups and plant two vegetable per group. My groups plant Okra and bitter eggplant and we need to try the technique from Mr. Ros Mao and SomboSambay in order to know if the technical work for us so that we have an example for the farmer before we go and teach them.
Outdoor Leadership
The third exploration of this year is Outdoor leadership. Outdoor leadership has taught me more about the outside world and nature. Before, when I heard or saw the word forest it felt like the forest was so scary and dangerous for me. When I saw animals, especially crickets, snakes, or birds, I either told my dad to kill it or I tried to kill it. But outdoor leadership taught me that all of those animals and things are also natural, they also want to live. They won’t hurt you if you don’t hurt them. That makes me sad, knowing all of the bad things that I did to nature. Now when I see an animal, I walk off. I’m not going to hurt them if they are not going to hurt me. And that is just a very good way to think and know. Outdoor leadership taught me that life is hard. If you just sit in the house and wait for rice to cook with all the electricity and a lighter. You will never know how life is hard. After all 7 weeks in this exploration, I feel like outdoor leadership means life without any stuff and supplies around you and how can you live without it. People right now live with nearly everything done for them. A lot of people, when they want food, they just go online or to the store to buy it. If they want rice, they go to the market and buy it or just put rice inside the automatic rice cooker and it cooks!! But they don’t know how hard is it to find one of the ingredients of the food. They don’t know where to find it. One more thought is to explore the beauty of nature. When you look at nature at the outside, it looks so scary, dangerous, and afraid. But when you go into it, explore it, learn about it you will see how beautiful nature is. After this exploration, I feel like I got to know more things in nature. I also learned how to help when there are people injured in the woods and I feel like if there is a time when this kind of problem happens, I can help them and guide other people to help too. All of the helping skills, making shelter, learning to survive in the woods, and walking a lot of kilometers through the woods makes me an outdoor leader. The first thing that I will do to share my knowledge with others to help protect natural spaces in Cambodia is to start with the people near me. It can be my family, my friend, every person around me and when they learn it and know it from me, they will tell their family and their friends too. It will continue and it is a great way to Started with. Because no one will listen to you if they don’t know you, so you need to teach the people around you first and then people that are your friends might also know people that you don’t know, and friends of your friends might also know someone that you and your friends don’t know. One more way is social media; you can share it on Facebook, you can share it with Youtube, you can share it on websites and people can check it out and learn it.. But it all started with the people next to you and the people that you know.
Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship is very important and it’s my first Exploration in Liger Leadership Academy too. Before I didn’t like Entrepreneur and I hate making business. But now It changed me a lot. I learned so many things and I made many things that help to solve the problem and also help Cambodian people. In my exploration, there are 15 students and I have a teacher name, Keith. He a very nice teacher and also very handsome. He teaches me some main thing about Entrepreneur. What makes their product popular what make them have a lot of customers. What makes them succeed. We started to brainstorm the idea how we can make the product that can help Cambodian people. A lot of people have a different idea. and they go to think with the teacher. Finally, I got the idea my idea is very strange. I want to make the magic ruler.
In that ruler, there is a lot more thing. At the front of the ruler it has the pen and the back it has an eraser. ’’I want to make this ruler because of a lot of people that is poor they don’t have much money to buy a pen, ruler, and also eraser if we sell this to the poor people they can just buy it just one tool and they can have three tools in it”. I present to my teacher. And he said This is a very good idea actually but I have to know that in my product I have to buy three things to make once so if I sell it for a cheap prize. I didn’t get any profit back. But you did a very great job. Finally, I got my team and we started to brainstorm again. And our first product was a small cabinet from a 3D printer. So I need to study how to use it. It’s was very hard So I decide to make it from cardboard I And I have another product that already has a prototype called Pencil holder. For many many days, I and my team have an idea that we should change our product because it takes a lot of time to make one. So we decide again to make a keychain. And I make 10 of it. After that, we go to Impact hub at Phnom Penh. There are a lot of Entrepreneur that working there. We going to get some feedback about our product. and they didn’t buy my product but they have some feedback for us. We sold 1.25$ for one. They said You didn’t want to cut or sand the bamboo into shape because it can cut our hand when we hold it. So I and my team come back home and stop cutting it into another shape.
We made 15 to 20 of the new one. And we sold it for the same prize. For two to three day we go to the school called CIA First and we take our product to sell. My new product was sold out for 10 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so surprising. We got 70,000 real in our bag. And the student just comes and started to want to buy more. We went there for 2 hours and we came back with a happy face. When I come back my teacher Keith told us that we should sell it for 2$ and we decide it sell for 2$ and it also so cheap for them!!!!! They started to want to buy more of them. We got around 10 thousand real after this exploration. This is a good experience.
Cambodia Geographybook
“The more Thing You learn The more thing you know” This quote helps me to learn the different thing or different subject that I didn’t want to do or learn. Everybody was so happy with the new exploration that they will have in the next week. And I was so happy too. Everybody run very fast to go to see the name of the exploration that they in. I run very fast to see. After seeing the name of exploration the happy face started to remove from my face.” Geography Exploration!!!!!!” I said it out loud. Geography is talking about the study of the physical features of the earth. I was so boring when I heard about Geography exploration and I scared it all day. I also wish every day to let me get into another Exploration.
“Monday is up!!!ready for a new Exploration Phearum!!!”. My geography teacher is talking to me as I walked slowly to the geography room. It’s was a lot of map in there and there is a lot of vocabulary about geography. But after my teacher talks for 10 minutes, I was wrong!!!!!. It’s not learning about the new vocabulary of geography. In this exploration, we learned about making a book called “ Cambodia geography book”.In our exploration, we were working on the western region of Cambodia that has six province which is Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Speu, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Pailin, and Pursat. First of all, we are looking for the five them that have Location in spatial terms, Places and Regions, Physical Systems, Human systems & Movement, Environment and society.
Disability
Disability is my third Exploration and it a very interesting topic to learn. However, Before I never know anything about disability but because of this topic, I know something that I never know before and it is a big mistake for me to say to the people without a disability. the word is ” Normal ” Normal is not a good word to describe the people without disability if we said the word “Normal” it means you have divided the people into two group. We can say “typical people” it is a good word to say to the people. This is only one word that I learn from this exploration. We have a lot of fun activity to play in the exploration to test how it feels like to have a disability. We also try to contact the organization that help people with disability to visit and one of the organizations that we went to is called Exceed
Before this organization called Cambodia trust. Exceed is the organization that makes Prosthetic and orthotic. Prosthetic is mean missing arm or leg that you need the new hole one. an orthotic is mean you have the arm or leg but it’s disableds orthotic support them from hurt. They can produce Prosthetic or Orthotic from 1 to 2 per day. At the end of this exploration, we went to the government school in Phnom Penh to do a presentation about what we learn in this exploration.
Traditional Food
Traditional food is the second exploration this year. Our goal is to learn about the type of traditional food and ingredient to document for our next generation to know about our traditional food. In this exploration, we mainly focusing to make a product such as a Video, journalism, and photo. To make all the product finish by seven-week we need to divide into this three group so I am in the photo group. My goal is to take a lot of pictures to make a photo essay about all the places and food that we went too. In the third week, we got to go to Siem Reap to learn the traditional food from the restaurant. They are Mahob, Cousin Wat Dammnak, and Sugar palm. We went to all of this restaurant and do a lot of interviews to get more information about the food. When we come back we started to take all the information to make our product and these are all the product that we make:
Community Documentary
This is the first Exploration in 2018. In this exploration, we were focusing on making the product in the community. Also, We collaborated with word renew student to making all of this product. We made this documentary in Kompong Speu province and in four villages. There are only four products in exploration which is Podcast, Video, Photo gallery, and Blog. I am in the blog group. The blog is a small website that we didn’t need code language to make it. In our blog we making it to contains all three other product, all village description, and province description. and we also write about all the village description and province description. for our trip first, we go on pre-trip to learn a little bit about people in all the village and ask them if we can do a documentary. For the second trip, we take the stuff that we need to make a documentary and we also interviewing village chief. For my blog group, we need to interview some people life story and all four village chiefs. When we get back to school we start to write the interview into Paragraph and learn how to put it into the blog. Click Here To See Blog. After that, we go back to the village and present the product that we are finished to the villager and give the village chief the product or file. For me, this exploration helps me learn more about technology staff like computer and website, blog.
